351 pupils get school dropout help in Balearics
In Palma, 351 secondary-school pupils across the Balearics are taking part in support aimed at preventing early school dropout in the 2025-2026 school year. That is up from 268 in 2022-2023, a rise of 31% over four school years. The Balearic Islands Ministry of Education and Universities released the figures on 26 September.
The pupils attend shared-schooling programmes, known as PEC, alongside their usual education. The schemes include PISE, the Socioeducational Intervention Programme, and Alter, which offers alternatives to mainstream training.
They are aimed at pupils struggling with schoolwork, attendance or motivation. A more practical and tailored approach combines academic study with pre-work and training activities, helping participants build personal, social and professional skills while staying connected to education.
The ministry has agreements with 32 town halls across the Balearics, which run the service in their municipalities. It says the steady rise in take-up shows growing confidence among schools, families and local authorities in a route designed to keep young people in education and help them move on to further study or work.
