Mallorca: 29,072 pupils to learn flood and wildfire safety

On Mallorca, 29,072 pupils are set to learn what to do in floods, wildfires and other emergencies. The Balearic Government presented the school programme, Educació X Emergències, at IES Emili Darder in Palma, Mallorca, on Monday, 28 September 2026. Across the Balearic Islands, it aims to reach 36,244 pupils during the 2026–2027 school year.

What the lessons cover

The lessons are for pupils in the sixth year of early childhood education, the sixth year of primary school and the fourth year of compulsory secondary school. Material will be adapted to each age group. It covers floods, severe weather and wildfires, as well as industrial and chemical accidents and accidents involving the transport of dangerous goods.

Alongside Mallorca’s 29,072 pupils, the programme is set to reach 4,142 on Eivissa, 2,763 on Menorca and 267 on Formentera. It provides 3,624 teaching hours across the islands. Secondary pupils will have four-hour blocks; younger pupils will have two-hour blocks.

Teachers and emergency workers join forces

Teachers will deliver the lessons with security and emergency personnel. So far, 907 teachers and 209 emergency professionals have completed training on the platform of Spain’s Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport. Another training session is planned for 10 November for teachers who missed the earlier sessions.

Schools are also introducing a new procedure for emergencies and severe weather. It sets out what school leaders, teachers, and administrative and support staff must do to keep pupils safe and allow teaching to continue.
