On Mallorca, public schools in Llucmajor face summer heat and winter cold: Llucmajor Town Council has unanimously backed a motion to check conditions and seek urgent work at the schools most in need before summer 2027. The local Socialist Party (PSOE), which proposed the motion, announced the decision on Friday, 6 November.

The checks would cover every public school in Llucmajor, looking at indoor temperatures, ventilation, insulation, trees, shade and water points. PSOE spokesman Jaume J. Oliver said radiators could not keep up in winter, leaving pupils and teachers having to wrap up to stay warm. He said recent high temperatures also affected pupils’ wellbeing, learning and staff working conditions.

The motion calls for a council plan to adapt schools to the climate and make playgrounds greener. It also seeks a dedicated line in the 2027 municipal budget for work the council is responsible for. At the schools most in need, it calls for urgent action on shade, drinking water, ventilation and heating before summer 2027. The PSOE has separately urged the Balearic Islands government to fund improvements to cooling and heating, ventilation and insulation.
