Ibiza school heat: PSOE demands action in Santa Eulària
Pupils in Santa Eulària, Ibiza, are still facing high temperatures in their classrooms, the PSOE says. On Tuesday, 15 September, the party called for immediate action and faster work to air-condition the schools. It said families and teachers believe the investment can wait no longer.
Víctor Torres, PSOE councillor and the party’s candidate for Santa Eulària Town Hall, said the argument should not be about which authority has responsibility. The focus, he said, must be on what the town hall and the Island Council of Ibiza can do now.
The party criticised the town hall’s response that it would study the situation while pupils remain exposed to the heat. PSOE plans to table a motion seeking a legal and budget route, coordinated with the Government of the Balearic Islands, to bring forward the necessary work.
Under the proposal, the funding would later be claimed from the authority responsible. PSOE said other municipalities have used similar arrangements when work could not be delayed, and argued that Santa Eulària Town Hall should coordinate the local response while pressing the Balearic Government for the investment.
