Palma plans new school on 8,012-square-metre plot
A school in Palma, Mallorca, is too small for local needs: the city is making an 8,012-square-metre plot in Son Peretó available for a new public education centre. The decision came on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, after the Balearic Islands education department asked for space to expand the existing centre in Son Serra. The new centre is planned to provide early years education, primary classes and music teaching.
City spokeswoman Mercedes Celeste said the existing centre could no longer meet the neighbourhood’s needs. No building timetable was announced.
Food deliveries and help with basic costs
The city also approved a funding arrangement with the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs. It will receive 2.7 million euros to help people struggling to meet basic needs as prices rise in connection with the conflict in the Middle East.
A separate home-delivery meal service will be able to serve up to 550 vulnerable people a month, with menus adapted to their dietary needs. Its 476,300-euro contract runs for 24 months, from 1 December 2026 to 30 November 2028.
Playground set for a makeover
The city has approved work on the 121-square-metre play area in the park on Calle Castilla y León in Palma. The project has a budget of 112,097 euros and is expected to take 90 days.
Plans include bringing the sand play areas together, adding accessible ramps and installing new equipment, including swings, a slide and a play tunnel.
