Balearic school meal supervision plan

The Balearic Islands Ministry of Education and Universities will appoint a person to oversee school meal services from the school year beginning in 2026. The ministry announced the measure on 19 August 2026 in Palma, Mallorca.

The role is intended to ensure standards for quality, organisation and pupil care during meal services at educational centres are met. It will also monitor whether required staffing ratios between supervisors and pupils are observed.

Menus and cafeteria services

The appointed supervisor will follow measures intended to increase the inclusion and use of local and organic products in school menus. They will also review the wider organisation of meal services.

Centres that operate cafeterias will likewise be subject to monitoring to ensure they meet the relevant duties and regulations.

Link with health inspectors

The new post will act as a coordinating link with health inspectors responsible for checking hygiene and sanitary conditions in school dining areas. This work is intended to support food safety for pupils.
