Mallorca schools can bring scientists into class
Mallorca schools can now ask health researchers to speak to pupils in class or online through a new platform that also offers laboratory visits. The Balearic Islands Health Research Institute (IdISBa) has launched it for primary and secondary schools across the islands. The Balearic health ministry announced the service on Wednesday, 30 September.
Schools can use “IdISBa Conecta: Ciencia Viva para las Escuelas” to contact researchers directly, arrange talks and meetings with pupils, or put scientific questions to them. Activities can be tailored to each school’s needs. The institute hopes the contact will bring health research into lessons and encourage young people to consider careers in science.
The platform also has videos, games and teaching materials linked to biomedical research. Families and anyone else interested in science and health can use the resources too. In a video section, researchers describe their work, the challenges they face and how their research affects people’s health.
