Mallorca schools face wider tablet limits and cooling plan
Schools on Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, face wider limits on tablets and laptops: the government plans to extend classroom restrictions gradually to the fourth year of compulsory secondary education (4th ESO). President Marga Prohens announced the move in Palma, Mallorca, on 20 October 2026, alongside an investment plan to extend climate control to every school in the islands. The plan is due before the current parliamentary term ends, but she gave no date for completing the work.
Fewer screens, more paper
Prohens said pupils still need to learn to use digital tools, but argued that schools should return to learning habits built around paper and pens. She linked the proposed limits to poor results in the PISA education study, which she blamed on the previous government's education policy.
Climate control and the next steps
Work on climate control has begun at around a dozen schools, Prohens said, while projects for nine more are being prepared. She also announced talks on a new education agreement, with help for teachers seeking housing and travelling to work among its priorities.
