Balearic schools gain 198 teachers as term starts
Balearic schools start the new term with 198 more teachers than last year, the PP says. Marga Durán, the party’s spokesperson in Parliament, set out the figures in Palma, Mallorca, on Friday, 11 September. She said average class sizes are now below the permitted maximums at every stage of education.
The PP says public education has added 1,316 teachers since the 2022-2023 school year. That rises to 1,446 when concerted schools are included. Since 2023, the party says the government has put an extra €250 million into improving teachers’ working conditions.
Support staff and nursery places
Durán said there are 397 more specialists supporting pupils with additional needs than in the previous legislature. Schools have also gained 24 new specialist-unit classrooms within mainstream centres and employ 90 psychologists this term.
Nearly 15,500 free places for children aged from zero to three are available at the start of the school year, according to the PP. It says 3,555 places have been created during the legislature, with free provision introduced in its first 50 days.
School building plans
The PP says 11 extensions or new secondary schools, worth €40 million, will open during this school year. A further 21 projects, valued at €125 million, are either under way or due to begin before the term ends.
The government puts total spending on completed, ongoing and planned education infrastructure at €305 million. Another 15 schemes are at the design stage, the party says.
