School uniforms from across the Balearic Islands go on show in Inca, Mallorca, on Monday, 2 November: the Education Museum traces how pupils’ clothes have changed since the 19th century. Education and Universities minister Antoni Vera visits the opening with pupils from Inca’s CC Sant Vicenç de Paül, the regional education department says.

Uniforms, school smocks and sports kit show how clothing once used to enforce discipline and mark social differences later became a sign of belonging to a school community. The exhibition is called ‘Tejidos de la Memoria: Los uniformes escolares en las Illes Balears’.

The exhibition opens to the public on Tuesday, and schools can also visit. It runs until January. Opening hours are 09.00 to 14.00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 09.00 to 19.00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
