Sea turtle rescued from net in Andratx, Mallorca
The crew of the Dragonera rescued a sea turtle whose flipper was tangled in netting on Tuesday and took it to Marina Port Andratx in Andratx, Mallorca. Staff at the marina immediately called the 112 emergency service to activate the relevant protocol.
Two representatives of the Palma Aquarium Foundation later arrived at the marina to collect the turtle and take charge of its care.
The foundation is responsible for assisting marine-animal strandings across the Balearic Islands through the Ocemib project, which protects threatened species including sea turtles, cetaceans and sharks.
Sea turtles in Balearic waters face risks from ghost nets, vessel collisions, accidental capture and marine litter. The foundation advises people not to remove nets, lines or ropes themselves, but to wait for specialist professionals.
