Spain’s parliaments weigh AI for subtitles and laws
Subtitles and transcripts are on the agenda: technology staff from Spain’s regional parliaments meet representatives of the Spanish Senate in Madrid, Spain, on 15 and 16 October to discuss uses for artificial intelligence (AI). Parliamentary sources told Europa Press the talks will focus on bringing AI into parliamentary services safely and responsibly.
The programme covers ways to catalogue and manage video and audio, find information and support legislative work. Delegates will also look at how parliaments in other countries use AI. Companies working in the field will take part.
The Senate has already taken steps of its own. It approved AI rules in February for senators and staff, requiring human oversight and protection of privacy. In late June, it bought 65 Gemini Enterprise Standard licences on a trial basis, with expert support. Presidents of the regional parliaments then met at the Senate in early July to discuss uses including document management and information searches.
A planned AI training session for senators was cancelled last Tuesday after the dissolution of Spain’s parliament. The October meeting will bring the discussion back to the Senate.
