Mallorca’s left unites for 29 November Senate vote
Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, has a joint left-wing bid for the 29 November Senate election: PSIB, Ara Més, Esquerra Unida and Sumar plan to stand together. Their agreement also covers Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera. PSIB is backing Catalina Cladera on Mallorca, but the other parties have not yet named their choices for the island.
Joana Barceló will stand on Menorca, and Juanjo Ferrer will run again on Eivissa. Neus Massanet hopes to become Formentera’s first woman senator after a constitutional reform allowed it to put forward a candidate separately from Eivissa.
The Balearic agreement is part of a wider left-wing pact covering 47 constituencies. The Socialists’ partners include Izquierda Unida, Movimiento Sumar, Más Madrid and Ceuta Ya. The parties call the deal “historic” and say they want the Senate to play a stronger role in cooperation between territories, while opposing PP and Vox. On Mallorca, the remaining names on the joint bid are still to be settled.
