Mallorca Senate election: three lists, three seats
Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, has three lists competing for its three Senate seats in the 29 November general election. Spain’s Official State Gazette publishes the candidates for both houses of parliament on Tuesday. Across the Balearics, ten lists have been registered for the Senate.
On the Balearic island of Formentera, three lists are competing in its first election for a senator, following a change to Spain’s constitution. Menorca and Ibiza have two Senate lists each.
Across Spain, parties and alliances submitted 929 candidacies: 556 for the lower house and 373 for the Senate. Election boards have reviewed the lists, required signatures and any challenges. The final lists are due on Tuesday.
Voters will choose 350 members of the lower house and 209 senators. For the first time, candidate lists for both houses must alternate between women and men.
