On Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, four left-wing parties are joining forces for the Senate election on 29 November. The Socialist Party (PSOE), Més, Izquierda Unida and Movimiento Sumar have agreed to run together across all four Balearic islands, the parties announced on Friday.

The island pact forms part of a wider agreement set to cover 47 constituencies in 43 provinces, according to the left-wing grouping Frente Amplio. The joint ballot will carry the name Senado de Progreso. Más Madrid and Ceuta Ya are also part of the wider deal.

The PSOE calls the agreement “historic” and says it wants to expand the progressive majority. Frente Amplio says the Senate should become a place where Spain’s regions work together more closely.
