Mallorca Senate list: González and Cerezo vie for slot
On Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, one place on a joint Senate list is at stake for Francisco González and Sergio Cerezo. Esquerra Unida and Sumar are negotiating on Sunday, 25 October, over that place and two candidacies for the Congress of Deputies ahead of the 29 November general election. Their lists must reach the Electoral Board by Monday, sources familiar with the talks told Europa Press.
One Senate place, two candidates
Esquerra Unida has put forward González, a sociologist and university lecturer who previously served on Llucmajor’s council on Mallorca. Sumar has proposed Cerezo, a social mediator. The sources said the talks were going well and that they expected an agreement on Sunday.
The Senate list brings their Frente Amplio alliance together with the Socialist party PSIB and MÉS per Mallorca. Socialist Catalina Cladera will head it. Frente Amplio and MÉS per Mallorca will share the second place: if the list wins that seat, González or Cerezo would serve the first half of the parliamentary term, followed by Rosa Cursach of MÉS per Mallorca for the second half.
The choice also shapes the Congress list
Frente Amplio has the second and fourth places on a joint Congress list with Ara Més. If González takes the Senate slot, Sumar gets second place on that list and Esquerra Unida gets fourth. If Cerezo takes it, the allocation switches.
Esquerra Unida confirmed four proposals from its island organisations on Sunday: Ana Ordoñez for Mallorca, José María García for Menorca, and Jorge Roselló and Òscar Rodríguez for Eivissa. One will take a Congress place reserved for Frente Amplio. Sumar has not made its proposed candidate or candidates public, leaving the final split to the negotiations.
