225 S'Estel workers get hazard pay and back pay

Palma, Mallorca: hazard pay lands in the September wages of 225 S'Estel staff for the first time, along with back pay dating to 1 January 2025. The Balearic government’s Department of Families, Social Welfare and Care for Dependent People confirmed the payment on Monday, 28 September 2026.

S'Estel works with minors subject to court measures. The extra pay is intended to recognise the physical risks, intensity and emotional demands of that work. Staff had long sought the allowance.

In 2026, staff who work directly and regularly with the minors can receive up to €368.45 a month. Those receiving the full amount include social educators, social workers, psychologists, educational support assistants, activity leaders and therapeutic care staff. Payments for other jobs vary according to duties and exposure to risk. Social welfare minister Sandra Fernández said the payment fulfilled a commitment to S'Estel staff.
