Mallorca: sewage pump planned for Bonaire marina car park
Mallorca: In Alcúdia, the council plans to put a sewage pumping station on 137.46 square metres of the Marina Bonaire car park. On 29 September 2026, the board of Ports de Baleares (PortsIB) agreed to grant the council a 50-year concession to build and operate it, the Balearic Ministry for the Sea and Water Cycle said.
Why the car park was chosen
The station is part of the council’s sewage scheme for the Mal Pas and Bonaire neighbourhoods. PortsIB’s technical staff found the car park the most compatible with port activity of the sites they examined. The council said it had no other suitable public land in the area.
The council will not pay a concession fee because it is a public authority carrying out a project of general interest.
Work still needs approval
The concession depends on approval of the project. Before building starts, the council must submit environmental documents, lodge a deposit and show that it has liability insurance covering accidental pollution and environmental damage.
The station must also have measures to prevent and respond to possible pollution. It must not disrupt the port’s operations or maritime traffic.
