Mallorca: A woman is under arrest in Manacor, accused of keeping all the money earned by women she recruited for sex work. Spain’s National Police announced the arrest on Monday, 26 October. Investigators say she found the women through a digital platform and arranged for them to work in a property in the town.

Police say the woman stopped paying them once they began earning. She kept only one woman working there each month, leaving them without a support network to turn to. Constant video surveillance and “very strict” rules were meant to stop anyone noticing that paid sexual services were taking place at the property.

When the women tried to leave because they had not been paid, the suspect showed them fake screenshots as supposed proof of payment, police say. She also posed as a lawyer, though she was not one, in an attempt to deter them from reporting her. Police say she exploited the women’s financial hardship and lack of work permits.
