In Palma, Mallorca, the city council plans to set aside €100,000 in its 2027 budget for people over 65 to share homes. Specialist organisations would find and rent the properties, then support the people living in them. The scheme sits within a €66.5 million budget for social services, education, neighbourhood participation, youth and equality — nearly €4.3 million more than in 2026.

More help for older people

Palma also plans to spend more than €3 million on municipal day centres, help at home and meal deliveries. These services are intended to help older people remain in familiar surroundings.

The social services budget is set to rise by about €1.7 million. The council plans to run its Social Care Office directly as a permanent service and create five social worker posts. More than €3.1 million is earmarked for short- and long-stay services and support for families.

Childcare and neighbourhoods

Education spending is planned at around €11 million. That includes a maintained €430,000 allocation for early-years education grants, plus more than €92,500 to replace furniture and equipment in municipal nurseries.

The budget also sets aside more than €800,000 in grants for neighbourhood groups. Funding for equality services is set to rise by 11%, including more support and shelter for women affected by gender-based violence.

Youth spending is planned at nearly €3 million. Of that, €1.5 million would go towards renewing and expanding facilities, including a new youth space in Palma’s Es Rafal Vell neighbourhood.
