Menorca shops seek aid as vouchers bring €11.52m sales

Menorca’s shops and self-employed workers are at the centre of talks on support this Thursday, as officials also reviewed a voucher scheme that generated €11.52 million in sales at participating businesses.

Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the Balearic minister for Enterprise, Self-Employment and Energy, met Pime Menorca and the Menorca Traders’ Association, known as Ascome. Maria Antònia Sansó, director general for Enterprise, Self-Employment and Commerce, also attended.

Support tailored to Menorca

The groups discussed the state of Menorca’s retail sector and business network, along with the main pressures and needs facing the sector.

Officials outlined programmes supporting self-employed workers and the modernisation of shops. The Balearic Government said it wants the aid schemes to fit Menorca’s particular needs and the reality facing its businesses and traders.

Sáenz de San Pedro promised direct, ongoing contact with the sector’s representative bodies and said the Government would listen to their proposals.

Voucher campaign brings €11.52 million in sales

The meeting also examined the latest Bonos Illes Balears campaign, a voucher scheme aimed at supporting local shops. The Balearic Government said it generated €11.52 million in sales across participating businesses, a figure not stated as applying only to Menorca.

According to the Government, each euro invested in the scheme produced €3.2 in sales.
