Balearics short breaks: May and November take 20%
The Balearic Islands are among Spain’s sought-after choices for three- and four-day breaks as travellers book outside the main summer season. May and November together accounted for 20% of bookings made in 2025, according to travel company WeRoad. That is close to the 23% recorded for July and August.
WeRoad says travel beyond the peak season is becoming more popular, driven by prices, fewer visitors and trips that offer a closer link to local culture.
Longer trips are moving beyond summer too. Among millennials, 47% of journeys lasting more than ten days now take place outside the summer months, up three percentage points on the previous year.
Asia attracts much of the demand for long-haul travel, with Thailand and China among the most requested destinations. China’s bookings outside summer have doubled from the previous year, while interest is also rising in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Spain remains a leading option for short breaks, with the Canary Islands, Galicia and the Balearics highlighted by WeRoad. Italy, Norway, Switzerland and Morocco are also gaining demand for trips lasting three or four days.
The company says 23% of those surveyed choose several short breaks across the year because they struggle to take several consecutive days off outside traditional holiday periods.
