Mallorca UGT chief takes on Feijóo over sick workers

In Magaluf, Mallorca, UGT leader Pepe Álvarez accuses Spanish People’s Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo of branding workers on sick leave “skivers” and urges him to stop. Álvarez speaks to reporters on Wednesday, 28 October, at a meeting calling for early retirement for hotel room attendants.
Álvarez says he hears Feijóo calling for people to work more and warning of hardship and suffering. He objects to the suggestion that people off sick are shirking work: they are ill and have been signed off by a doctor, he says. Álvarez asks Feijóo to think twice before using the insult again.
