Sick leave pay row heads to Balearic parliament
Palma, Mallorca: The socialist PSIB is taking a fight over sick leave pay and workers’ rights to the Balearic parliament’s next sitting. The party wants workers to be able to take sick leave without losing pay or rights. Its spokesman, Iago Negueruela, set out the proposal on 7 October and accused Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the conservative People’s Party (PP), of attacking sick leave.
Negueruela said Feijóo calls the issue absenteeism, while the PSIB sees overwork and excessive strain. The party’s motion aims to prevent changes to sick leave rules along the lines it says the PP is proposing.
MPs will also debate a call for a new control tower at Menorca Airport. Unidas Podemos MP José María García says the current tower has been in use since 1968 and should be replaced. In a separate session questioning the Balearic government, MÉS per Mallorca will ask about measures against speculation and the cost of living. Its MP Ferran Rosa says the government has done nothing to curb the impact of inflation.
