Mallorca single-parent status could last until 26
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands: single-parent families could keep their official certificate until their youngest child turns 26, under a proposal backed on 29 October 2026. The Balearic Parliament’s Social Affairs Committee voted to ask the regional government to change the rules. The certificate would remain valid only while the family still meets the legal requirements.
The proposal would also end annual renewals when children over 21 are still studying. Families would still have to tell the authorities about any change that ends their eligibility.
The committee wants families to be able to apply and renew online. It also called for fixed maximum times for decisions and a digital certificate that would be easier to use with public authorities and other organisations. The People’s Party put forward the proposal. All but one of its points passed unanimously; MÉS per Mallorca abstained on that point. The vote asks the regional government to act, but sets no date for a change.
