Mallorca sleep rape trial opens, 10 years sought

A man goes on trial at 10am on Monday over allegations he raped his sleeping flatmate at a home in Mallorca. Prosecutors are seeking a 10-year prison sentence and €20,000 in compensation. The Second Section of the Balearic Provincial Court is hearing the case.
The alleged assault took place in the early hours of 23 October 2022, according to the prosecution. Prosecutors say the man took advantage of his flatmate being asleep.
The woman suffered physical injuries that did not need medical treatment, the prosecution says. It also alleges psychological, emotional and affective harm.
