Mallorca, Balearic Islands: Spain’s snap election on 29 November draws an “At last!” from regional president Marga Prohens. She says Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s government has abandoned the islands. Sánchez announced the early general election on Monday, 5 October, and Prohens welcomed it in a post on X.

Prohens says the government has ignored calls for better funding and left the islands’ special arrangements and investment in roads and rail unresolved. She also accuses it of managing airports against citizens’ interests and looking away from what she calls the worst migration crisis.

She hopes the vote will end Sánchez’s government. In her view, only Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the conservative People’s Party, can lead a change of government that will address the Balearics’ demands.
