Balearics: social security rolls drop by 10,000

The Balearic Islands had 683,955 people registered with Spain’s Social Security system on 15 September — around 10,000 fewer than in August. The average for 1 to 15 September was 684,603. The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration published the figures on Thursday.

Spain’s total climbs

Across Spain, the daily total rose by 410,038 between 31 August and 15 September, reaching 22,489,205 contributors. From 1 to 15 September alone, it increased by 204,392, or 0.9%.

The ministry said September traditionally gets a lift from teachers joining the system for the new school year.

After seasonal and calendar effects were stripped out, Spain ended the first half of September with a record 22,409,090 contributors. That was 90,097 more than a month earlier, an increase of 3.2%.

On the same adjusted basis, the total has grown by 701,580 over the past year. Minister Elma Saiz said the rise reflected more permanent contracts and less temporary work.
