Mallorca has two new solar farms with more than 21,000 panels between them: Sampol opens Son Magraner and Son Ripollet on 22 October, each with batteries to store power for later. Together, the sites have 14.79 MWp of solar capacity and close to 13 MWh of storage, according to the company. Sampol estimates they will produce more than 25,000 MWh a year.

Saving solar power for later

Son Magraner has more than 6,500 panels and 4.18 MWh of battery storage. Son Ripollet has 14,616 panels and 8.78 MWh of storage. The batteries can hold some power when solar production is high, then release it when demand rises or renewable output falls. Sampol monitors both sites continuously from its control centre in the Balearic Islands.

Nearly €20 million invested

Sampol developed and built both farms and operates them. The combined investment is close to €20 million, and both projects received support from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU funds.

Investors also contributed: 62 local and national investors put €819,000 into Son Magraner, while 142 local investors put €2.43 million into Son Ripollet.
