Mallorca university adds 10,000 kWh of solar storage
Mallorca’s University of the Balearic Islands can now store up to 10,000 kWh of solar electricity at its campus in Palma, Mallorca, after installing two battery systems. The university announced the completed installation on 19 October 2026. The batteries will save power for times when the campus needs more electricity or its solar panels are not producing any.
Two batteries, two sites
One system stands beside the solar panels at Aljub General, between Son Lledó and the sports facilities. The other is beside the panels at Pantaleu. Each cost €2.3 million.
Solar power for later
Storing surplus electricity will let the university use more of the power it generates and rely less on outside supplies. The projects are backed by a Balearic Islands energy-transition programme co-funded by the Balearic Government and form part of a European Union-funded recovery plan.
They also fit the university’s longer-term aim: for the campus to generate all the energy it uses while reducing its electricity bill and environmental footprint.
