Soldiers to patrol Ibiza and Formentera for four days

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

The islands of Ibiza and Formentera get four days of military patrols from 13 to 16 October: soldiers will check routes on Ibiza and cover all of Formentera. The Spanish Ministry of Defence says the unit belongs to the Palma 47 regiment and is based at Sa Coma.

On Ibiza, the soldiers will survey routes in parts of the municipalities of Eivissa, Santa Eulària and Sant Joan de Labritja. As they travel, they will meet local authorities to explain what they are doing and why.

The ministry calls this a presence, surveillance and deterrence operation. It says the patrols are a military deployment, not a training exercise. The aim is to spot possible threats early and make a response to a potential crisis possible.
