Mallorca's Sóller tunnel closes at night: pass detour

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca's Sóller tunnel closes overnight from Monday, 19 October, sending drivers along the Coll de Sóller road (Ma-11A). The closure runs from 22.00 to 06.00, Monday to Thursday, until 19 November. The tunnel stays open at weekends, according to Mallorca's island council, the Consell de Mallorca.

Ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles and TIB public buses can still use the tunnel during the closure. All other traffic must take the pass road.

New signs and cleared drains

Workers will replace the signs inside the Sóller tunnel with new display panels. They will also clear drainage systems there and in the Sa Mola tunnel to help prevent flooding. The council carries out the drainage work each autumn before the heavy-rain season and checks the tunnels' safety and ventilation systems annually. The work has a budget of 700,000 euros.

Son Vic tunnel also closes

The Son Vic tunnel on Mallorca will close on the nights of 18–19 and 19–20 October for cleaning and safety-system maintenance. The first closure is expected to be shorter; the second will last all night. Traffic will go through Peguera while the tunnel is closed.

Those same nights will bring traffic interruptions, but not full closures, at other tunnels on the Andratx motorway (Ma-1) and the ring road (Ma-20).
