Mallorca's Sóller tunnel shuts at night for a month

Mallorca’s Sóller tunnel closes to most traffic at night from Monday 19 October to 19 November, sending drivers over the Coll de Sóller. The Consell de Mallorca, the island council, says maintenance will take place from 23.00 to 06.00 on Monday to Thursday nights. The tunnel stays open at weekends.

Ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles and TIB public buses can still use the tunnel during the closures. Other traffic must take the road over the Coll de Sóller (Ma-11A).

Drainage and safety work

Workers will replace the signs inside the Sóller tunnel. They will also clean drainage systems there and in the Sa Mola tunnel to help prevent flooding. The council carries out that work each autumn before the season of heavy rain.

Safety and ventilation systems will receive their annual checks. The council has set a budget of 700,000 euros for the work.

Son Vic closes on two nights

The Son Vic tunnel will also close on the nights of 18–19 and 19–20 October for cleaning and maintenance of its safety systems. The first closure is expected to be shorter; the second will last all night. Traffic will divert through Peguera.

On those same nights, other tunnels on the Andratx motorway (Ma-1) and the Ma-20 ring road will see traffic interruptions, but will not close completely.
