Solo travel: 49% of Spaniards pick four-to-seven-day breaks

A four-to-seven-day break is the sweet spot for 49% of Spaniards planning solo travel, according to survey results released in Madrid on 17 September. That is above the 43% recorded across the international sample. OnePoll carried out the research for eDreams.

Spain itself is the destination chosen by 32% of Spanish respondents travelling alone, compared with 26% internationally. Another 31% say they would go anywhere in the world, while 27% would choose somewhere in Europe.

Short breaks lead the way

Trips lasting one to three days appeal to 23% of Spaniards. A further 15% would travel alone for eight to 14 days, and just 5% would stay away for more than two weeks.

Across both the Spanish and international groups, the preferred length of a solo trip works out at about six days.

Planes first, trains beat cars

Flying is the leading choice for solo travellers in Spain, picked by 59%, close to the 60% international figure.

For travel on land, trains come ahead of cars in Spain: 46% choose rail and 35% choose the car. Across all markets, trains and cars are almost level, with 40% choosing the train.

OnePoll surveyed 1,000 adults in Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Portugal for eDreams. It also questioned 2,000 adults in the United Kingdom and the United States who had travelled abroad during the previous five years.
