Mallorca: Aena’s Son Bonet solar park plan blocked
Aena’s planned solar park at Son Bonet on Mallorca has been refused approval. The Balearic government bases its decision on environmental assessment criteria, President Marga Prohens told parliament on Wednesday, 21 October.
The announcement came during a sharp exchange with opposition parties. Prohens accused the left of hypocrisy over climate policy, pointing to permits for thousands of homes with pools and seven million square metres of solar parks on rural land.
She also blamed eight years of left-wing policies for housing shortages and heavy tourist numbers. Licensed holiday rentals rose by 132 per cent between 2015 and 2022, she said. Prohens announced the Son Bonet decision while accusing the left of backing airport expansions.
