Mallorca nursery opens 92 places for under-threes

Mallorca has 92 new nursery places for children under three: the Son Dameto centre in Palma opens on Wednesday, 30 September. Palma mayor Jaime Martínez and Balearic education minister Antoni Vera inaugurated the nursery, which cost €2.5 million to build.

Places for babies and toddlers

The nursery has seven classrooms across 1,137 square metres of built space. It offers 14 places for children under one, 24 for one- to two-year-olds and 54 for two- to three-year-olds. There is also a special education classroom, a room for movement activities and a multipurpose room.

Palma City Council and the Balearic government funded the building together. The education department contributed €1.16 million from European recovery funds to create places for young children.

Who runs the nursery next

The Balearic education department will take direct control of Son Dameto during the 2026/2027 school year. Other centres in Palma, elsewhere on Mallorca and on Ibiza are also joining its direct management.

With those additions, the department will directly manage 1,044 places on Mallorca, 178 on Menorca and 465 on Ibiza.
