Palma patients wait six months as PSOE targets Son Espases

Some patients at University Hospital Son Espases in Palma wait more than six months for an operation, according to the PSOE. On Monday, 21 September, the party said it would ask Palma City Council’s plenary to demand the immediate resignation of hospital manager Cristina Granados. It wants the Balearic Government to dismiss her if she does not step down.

Socialist councillor Elena Navarro said the delays were unacceptable. She said waiting lists had grown, emergency departments had become overwhelmed and fewer operations had been carried out despite Son Espases receiving its biggest budget this year. The party also alleges that services have been outsourced and staff working conditions have worsened.

The PSOE says the strain reaches health centres across Palma’s neighbourhoods. It will call for a significant rise in their funding and for an urgent action plan at Son Espases from the Balearic Health Service, IBSalut, and the Health Ministry.

The motion also seeks a maximum 48-hour wait for appointments with family doctors or paediatricians at any Palma health centre. The party wants Palma’s Continuous Care Points, known as PAC, to have enough doctors and nurses to ease pressure on hospital emergency departments.
