Mallorca: 71 wait for admission at Son Espases

Seventy-one people are waiting in the emergency department at Son Espases Hospital in Palma, Mallorca, to be admitted on Tuesday, 3 November. Socialist MP Patrícia Gómez gives the figure in the Balearic Parliament as she challenges health minister Manuela García. García says she regrets it if anyone has to wait longer than they would wish.
Gómez says the hospital is not facing an epidemic, a doctors’ strike or a rise in population. Even so, she warns, concern about emergency departments is growing.
García defends the regional government’s healthcare record and accuses the socialist PSIB of “plenty of talk, little work”. She thanks emergency staff for coping with what she describes as increased demand.
