Mallorca hospital gathers 180 to improve patient care
Mallorca’s Son Llàtzer University Hospital in Palma brings 180 people together on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, to examine how patients’ experiences can improve care. The meeting is the third event marking the hospital’s 25th anniversary, the Health Ministry says. Patients and health professionals share their experiences of communication and support.
Gabriel Heras, an intensive care doctor and founder of the HU-CI Project, speaks about making care more humane, particularly where treatment demands are high. Son Llàtzer staff then describe services they have introduced or changed to better meet patients’ needs. These include clinics for blood clotting and Andrade disease risk, 3D surgery in trauma care and support for breech births.
The meeting ends with a debate about what hospitals owe people beyond treatment and the ethics of care. The speakers include June Tomé, who chairs the care ethics committee at Son Llàtzer and Hospital Joan March, clinical embryologist Rafael Trinchant Mellado and University of the Balearic Islands lecturer Jesús Tomás Monge Moreno.
