Son Reus animal centre strike set to begin on Monday

A Son Reus animal centre strike is set to begin at 2pm on Monday 24 August at the Municipal Animal Protection Health Centre in Palma, Mallorca. The action will go ahead after mediation at the Balearic Islands Arbitration and Mediation Tribunal ended without an agreement.

UGT said reaching a settlement before the walkout now appeared difficult. The union criticised Palma City Council and the company involved, saying neither had taken responsibility for resolving the dispute.

The union said staff had for months raised concerns over pay and occupational risk prevention. It said employees provide a specialised essential service around the clock throughout the year, while earning little more than the minimum wage and having no drinking water available at their workplace.
