Spain airports set for €13bn investment as charges rise
Spain’s airports are set for almost €13 billion in investment between 2027 and 2031, while average airport charges are due to rise by 0.33% a year. Aena announced the plan in Madrid on Monday, 21 September, after the Cabinet approved DORA III — the Airport Regulation Document that sets the rules for the network — last Tuesday. The operator says the money will give airports the capacity to respond to changing air traffic over the coming decades.
Aena calls the new regulatory package demanding, but says it will fund the work airports need while keeping charges competitive. It says the investment plan will meet demand and help Spain retain its leading position in air travel.
The airport operator said its current financial strength means it can meet the requirements of DORA III. It is also preparing its strategic plan for 2027 to 2031.
