Mallorca faces 40% chance of more autumn rain

Mallorca is included in a forecast that gives the Balearics a 40% chance of more rain than usual from September to November. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, released the outlook on Monday, 21 September, at a briefing at its Valencian Community delegation. The chance of a drier-than-normal season stands at 25%.

The forecast covers the whole Balearic archipelago rather than Mallorca alone. AEMET gives the same rain probabilities for northern and eastern parts of the Iberian Peninsula.

A warmer autumn is more likely

AEMET puts the chance of a warmer-than-usual climatological autumn at 60% to 70% across Spain. The probability of a colder one is just 10%.

For the astronomical autumn, running from October to December, the agency says above-normal temperatures are very likely across much of the Iberian Peninsula. Northern, central and western areas of the peninsula also have a higher chance of wetter conditions.

Balearics emerge from an extremely warm summer

The Balearics had an extremely warm summer in 2026, according to AEMET. Rainfall across the islands was predominantly very low.

Across Spain, the summer from 1 June to 31 August was the hottest in the official series dating back to 1961. A reconstruction by climate researchers, reaching back to 1869, also found no hotter summer in at least 157 years.
