Mallorca leader demands road and rail deals in Spain vote
Mallorca Island Council president Llorenç Galmés wants new road and rail agreements as Spain heads for a general election on 29 November. In a statement circulated to the media on Monday, he welcomed the vote, saying Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had “finally given in” and listened to voters.
Galmés hopes the election will bring a different approach to Mallorca, including a new funding system as well as the transport agreements. He also wants to stop what he calls a “migration invasion”, pointing to Ceuta and the Balearic Islands.
He accused Sánchez’s government of inaction and said it was dogged by corruption cases. Galmés argued that, without a majority in Congress, it had been unable to pass measures he considered good for Spain or approve a budget. Its failures, he said, had made life’s problems worse for people on Mallorca in recent years.
