Spain flights rise 5% as hotel rates climb

Spain's flight bookings rise 5% year on year in summer 2026, even as average daily hotel rates across Europe climb 4% to 6%. Bookings for both flights and hotels still beat the previous two summers, according to a report by RateGain Travel Technologies and its Sojern division.

Spain accounts for a steady 11% of Europe's flight bookings from June to August. It is the continent's leading country for both departing and arriving travellers, the report says. Across Europe, tourist activity grows most sharply in July, up 5%, while August remains the busiest month for flights.

Beyond Europe, the football World Cup in North America shapes demand. British travellers account for more than 25% of European bookings for transatlantic flights in June and July.

The continuing conflict in the Middle East also shifts bookings towards Turkey. Flights booked to Turkey rise 25% year on year, giving it 60% of bookings to the wider region. Other destinations there record an average fall of 13%.
