Spain fuel prices fall, but diesel tank costs €26.95 more
In Spain, filling a 55-litre diesel tank costs €103.78 on 29 October 2026 — €26.95 more than a year ago, even as fuel prices fall again. Petrol averages €1.751 a litre after four straight weeks of declines; diesel averages €1.887. The figures come from the European Union’s Oil Bulletin, reviewed by Europa Press.
Why prices are falling
Petrol is 9.74% cheaper than four weeks ago, including a 1.63% drop in the past week. The slide follows a run of thirteen weekly rises that took the price to its yearly high in early October.
At the start of October, Spain’s government raised its petrol tax relief from five to 20 cents per litre. Diesel had already received 20 cents per litre since early September. Its average price fell 0.1% this week and 2.3% over the past three weeks.
A cheaper litre, a dearer tank
The drop has not wiped out the increase over the past year. A 55-litre petrol fill-up now costs about €96.30, or €15.62 more than a year ago.
The government plans to reduce the fuel tax relief to 13 cents per litre in November and six cents in December. If prices rise by more than 15%, the relief would return to 20 cents in either month.
