Cheaper petrol is not bringing down Spain’s inflation rate: it holds at 4.9% in October, according to preliminary figures released on Friday by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE). That matches the rate in February 2023 and marks a third consecutive month above 4%.

Fuel and lubricants for private vehicles pulled the rate down, after rising in price in October 2025. Food prices rose too, but less sharply than they did a year ago.

Other prices worked the opposite way. Package holidays became cheaper, but by less than in October 2025. Gas prices rose more sharply, while liquid fuels went up after falling a year earlier.

Core inflation, which excludes unprocessed food and energy, stayed at an estimated 3.1%.
