Spain: 2,067 rental homes pulled in just 10 days
Spain’s rental market loses 2,067 homes in 10 days: estate agents report that owners have withdrawn them from the market for standard residential lets following the government’s housing decrees. On 13 October, the National Federation of Estate Agency Associations (FAI) released the figures from a survey of more than 600 agencies in major cities across Spain. The agencies also report 1,523 rental agreements stalled or blocked.
Homes shift to sales and shorter lets
A further 1,224 homes have moved from rental listings to sale, while 944 have been offered as short-term lets or rooms instead. Together with the withdrawn homes, that makes 4,235 properties removed from standard rental listings or redirected to other uses.
More than three-quarters of the agencies surveyed — 78.1% — say owners have withdrawn homes from the standard rental market. Some 72.4% report delays or stops to rental agreements. Only 11.1% say their business has not changed.
More deals could fall through
FAI expects the number of rental deals to fall by 25% to 30% in the coming weeks. Its president, José María Alfaro, says small landlords lack clear, full protection against unpaid rent. He warns that delayed agreements could leave families without another rental option.
The survey gives no separate figures for Mallorca, so it does not show whether rental listings on the island have been affected.
