Spain adds more than 92,000 people to its social security rolls in September: the total tops 22.4 million, making it the strongest September since records began. In Madrid on 2 October, Inclusion, Social Security and Migration Minister Elma Saiz says more than 420,000 people on the rolls at the end of the month came through an extraordinary legalisation process.

The number of insured workers is more than 3.4% higher than a year earlier. On many days in September, the daily count exceeded 22.5 million.

Saiz says more than 10.5 million women are working in Spain, while more than 15 million people on the rolls have permanent contracts. Foreign workers number more than 3.6 million and account for over 16% of the country’s workforce. She calls the legalisation process a key factor and expects employment growth to continue in the coming months.
