Spain heads for a 29 November election: Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez calls the early vote on Monday, 5 October, at the Moncloa government headquarters in Madrid.
The decision follows a defeat in Spain’s Congress on Friday. PP, Vox and Junts voted against two royal decrees containing measures to tackle the housing problem. Sánchez then spent the weekend considering whether to bring the election forward.
Before making the announcement, Sánchez informed King Felipe VI. The king begins a state visit to Finland with Queen Letizia on Monday.
