Spain chase USA win in Basketball World Cup semi

Spain are preparing to face the United States in the FIBA Basketball World Cup semi-final in Berlin on Saturday. Alba Torrens says the team’s run to the last four is the result of work by the players and by many others who helped them get there. Spain missed the previous World Cup.

“Being here again means a great deal because it is not easy,” Torrens told reporters in the German capital on Friday, 11 September 2026, in comments provided by the Spanish Basketball Federation. “It is the work of the team, but also of many people who have pulled together so we can be here today.”

Torrens said reaching the semi-finals was a success shared by everyone involved, but Spain were already focused on the next game. Any World Cup semi-final is difficult, whoever the opponent is, she said, and the squad are preparing to compete.

The players have supported one another and shared ideas during the tournament, which ends this weekend. Torrens said Spain must stay focused on the present and on the details of their preparation.

“The desire is there, the excitement is there,” she said. “We want to win every match. That is the mentality, and of course we want to win this semi-final.”
